Blackjack Basic Strategy Trainer

Requires Flash 8

Game Overview

This Flash game is a virtual flashcard game that teaches Blackjack basic strategy.
It cycles through 290 unique blackjack situations, testing your knowledge of the game.
Obvious situations (e.g., when the player's total is less than eight) are not tested.

Beginner blackjack players may wish to start at http://wizardofodds.com/blackjack to
introduce themselves to the game and basic strategy before utilizing this trainer.

Gameplay

Once started, the game presents the player hand and the dealer upcard. Press one of the
Hit, Stand, Double, or Split buttons to register your choice. You may also use the keyboard
to enter your choice (h, s, d, or p respectively). When all 290 flashcards have been completed,
the game will report your finish time and the number of errors you made.

There is a reset button to restart the game at any time. Furthermore, there is a "random
order" checkbox. If "random order" is selected when the game is reset, the flashcards will
be presented in a random order. This emulates a real playing situation, where quick reaction
to a random hand is desireable. This mode is the default.

If "random order" is unselected, the game will present the flashcards in a predetermined
order - similar to what you might expect to see in a basic strategy table. This mode is
an excellent method to quickly test your knowledge of basic strategy.

Game options

On the start page, use the radio buttons and checkboxes to select game options. Changing
the game options changes basic strategy, and this affects the answers to the flashcards in
the game. The game options are explained below. Game options that have not been implemented
yet are greyed out - these are coming soon!

Number of decks
Configures the number of 52 card decks used in the shoe. In games that feature smaller shoes,
removal of the player's hand and dealer's upcard has a greater effect on the balance of the
remaining cards. This has a slight effect on basic strategy. Select the size of shoe that
you wish to practice on.

Stand on soft 17
Configures whether the dealer is required to hit or stand on soft 17.

Double after split
Configures whether or not the player is permitted to double down after a hand is split.

Surrender
Configures whether or not late surrender is offered. Not currently implemented.

Double on...
Configures when the player is allowed to double down on his initial two card hand. Three
popular options are offered: doubling down is allowed on any two cards, hard and soft totals
of nine through eleven only, or hard and soft totals of ten or eleven only.
